Building on two successful years, the Georgia Governor's Cup Series will bring the state's best bluewater anglers together again in May.

Last year's series produced some outstanding catches including the current state record 123-pound, 3-ounce wahoo caught by Mike Stefanick, which netted $100,000 for the team aboard the Cold Duck. Top three boats in the 2000 Series were Stress Factor, T.J. Hooker, and Bald Eagle.

This year's series is sponsored by Williams Detroit Diesel-Allison, Release Marine, Coca-Cola Bottling of Savannah and WRHQ 105.3 FM Radio. The series also received $15,000 from Georgia's Governor Roy Barnes to cover promotion costs.

The 2001 Series will include four events. The first will be held at St. Simons Island; the following three in Savannah. Points for tuna, dolphin, and wahoo will be awarded based on weight. Billfish points will be earned following a photo-documented release.

Again this year, large bonus prizes will be awarded for state-record-breaking fish. For more information on the series, go to www.ga-governors-cup.org or contact Tommy Williams at (912) 897-2220.
